I know there are quite a few indigenous languages in India, but I'm not really sure exactly how many there are. Does anyone know the number and names of all the languages in India?

There are tons of languages in India. I read somewhere there are several hundred mother tongues and dialects. However, nobody has the precise figure, not even the Indian government. This is really interesting, thanks. Amazing that Nepali is up there too. And is Sanskrit spoken as a mother tongue by 0.5 million people, or does this count second and third languages?
